Rest in peace Cobydog
Coby was my first high-drive, crazy, over-the-top dog. I thought I had done my research and was prepared for what I was getting into, but nothing can prepare you for this experience! Cobydog came from a breeder who showed Australian cattledogs and I agreed to show him in conformation. With her help, Coby and I finally got his Championship! It was not much fun for Coby to stand still and look pretty -- he needed a little more excitement in his life! That is what led us to flyball!
Flyball seemed to be tailor-made to Coby's love of running, barking, and chasing tennis balls. He absolutely loved the game and earned his FMX in NAFA. His flyball career sadly had to be cut short when he started losing his vision to PRA, progressive retinal atrophy. He ran his last tournament as a veteran in NAFA at 9 years old, and even though he was only able to see shadows by then, he knew the course so well from so many years of playing that most people couldn't tell that Coby was nearly blind. He ran down to the box and back flawlessly, still putting up some 4.8s in his last tournament. I will always love my Cobydog for introducing me to this crazy fun game of flyball and for showing me how much fun it is to train and play with a dog that truly loves to play and have fun ALL THE TIME!!
